Strumica’s carnival is one of the biggest in Balkan and member of FECC (federation of European carnival cities). The entire city lives for these 4 days and everyone makes their own masques for the carnival. The Carnival ceremonies begin in Saturday night with election of king and queen of the carnival at a party in hotel “Sirius”. The next day is the children carnival and in Tuesday night is the main ceremony when more than 50 000 people come to Strumica and the city celebrates till the morning hours.

Day 1 (Saturday) – Skopje – Strumica
Arrival in airport in Skopje. If we have time we will have walking tour around the old part of Skopje, visiting Skopje Kale (Fortress), church “Holy Saviour”, Mustafa pasha mosque and Museum Macedonia. Lunch in a restaurant in Skopje. Transfer from Skopje to Strumica. Arrival in Strumica (172 êì) and accommodation in a hotel. Presence to party organized for carnival in hotel “Sirius”, where all people are masked and they have party with Macedonian music and to the end of the party a king and a queen of Strumica’s carnival are chosen.

Day 2 (Sunday) - Strumica
After breakfast in the hotel we will go to visit the children carnival organized at the main square. After that we continue with of Roman spa in Bansko (13 êì), dating back from III century and is one of most preserved on the Balkan with altitude of walls to 6,7 meters. Driving to Monospitovo bog, the only remaining in Macedonia. We will have lunch in a national restaurant where you will enjoy the Macedonian food. We will visit Smolare waterfalls (15 êì), the biggest in Macedonia with 38 meter. Back to the hotel. Dinner in a restaurant.

Day 3 (Monday) – Strumica – Dojran – Strumica
Breakfast in the hotel. Visit of church “St. Leontius” in Vodocha (5 km) place where the blindness of 14 000 Samuil soldiers took part. Visit of the monastery “The Holy Virgin Merciful” in Veljusa (4 km) dating from 1080 year where most famous fresco is Jesus Christ Emanuel. Departure to Dojran. Lunch in a fish restaurant in Dojran (55 km). Walk to quay of Doyran lake, known by fishing with small birds, cormorans. Visit of church “St. Ilia” which was destroyed in the time of First World War, when the line of the front pass through Dojran. Back to Strumica (46 km) and dinner in a restaurant.

 

Day 4 (Tuesday) – Strumica
Breakfast in the hotel. Visit of the church “St.15 Tiberiopolis martyrs”, dedicated to protectors of the city and Gallery of icons. Lunch in a restaurant. Free time for wa lking to Strumica’s coffee bar and filling of atmosphere of the carnival. Presence on the main carnival evening, considered as the one of the best in Balkan. Party goes on in Strumica’s restaurants and night bars.

Day 5 (Wednesday) – Strumica – Radovis – Stip – Skopje
Breakfast in the hotel. Visit of church “St. Troica” in Radovis (32 km), which founder is a Macedonian businessman Risto Gusterov. Depart for Stip (30 km) and visit of church “The Holy Virgin” constructed by great Macedonian builder from the middle of XIX century Andrej Damjanov. Lunch in a restaurant in Stip and we will have pastrmajlija (meat pie). Depart to Skopje (88 km) and leaving Macedonia.
